Ali heads to Jamestown / Williamsburg
Ali had the honor to participate in a development workshop for Adam Ashraf El-Sayigh’s JAMESTOWN/WILLIAMSBURG, as part of the Joust Theatre Company’s 2019 Writers’ Roundtable. The Writers’ Roundtable meets over a 9-month period to develop their plays with constructive feedback from other playwrights, a developmental workshop with actors, and dramaturgy from the artistic staff of The Joust, culminating in a reading festival hosted at Shetler Studios on October 5th, 2019.
Jamestown/Williamsburg tells the story of the voyages and traumas of two immigrant women, Diyala and Agnes. The former came to Virginia on a student visa in 2019, and the latter was a mail-order bride to Jamestown in 1619, with an elaborate plan to rule the new world. Karishma Bhagani directed the reading, and joining Ali in the cast were McLean Peterson, Greg Cuellar, and Eden Azar. Highlights from the reading are included in the Instagram post above.
